| Q |
Who needs
an air function? |
| A |
Anyone who wants to move air through
a fluorescent light fixture, or likes the "floating door"
look created by a black reveal. |
| Q |
What is an
air handling unit? |
| A |
A fluorescent lighting fixture which
can be used to let air pass through it. When people refer to an "air
handling" unit, they usually are referring to a unit which offers
a wide range of possible air functions. These units generally have
a reveal. Some examples of Columbia Lighting recessed air handling
fixtures are the HC, P4,
45, 5PA
and 6PA. |
| Q |
What is the
black reveal for? |
| A |
The black reveal is our mechanism for
getting air (other than extract) through the light fixture. To offer
a full range of air functions, we dedicate a portion of the unit's
structure for air passage. That portion is the reveal, the area we
dedicate to air passage, a narrow strip on the back of the housing.
Looking up at the fixture, it runs along the outside edge of either
a door or louver. It is normally painted black and is often referred
to as a "floating door." |
| Q |
Do all air
handling units have a reveal? |
| A |
No. Some of our units allow heat extract
only. Extract is an air function which does not require a reveal.
A few examples of recessed units with extract only, without a reveal,
include the VHC, P2, and
4PS units. |
| Q |
Can I get
extract only and a reveal? |
| A |
Yes. You will need to choose a unit
with full air handling capabilities. Some examples are the HC,
P4, 45,
5PA and 6PA. |
| Q |
Does Columbia
Lighting provide the air diffuser or "boot" for air handling
units? |
| A |
No. Air boots are normally part of
the HVAC package. |
